    Getting away:

  • Bangkok - Manila: Philippine Airlines - sometimes there are problems to book tickets with non-Philippine credit cards on the Internet portal. Try to book in normal travel agencies or in the city offices of Cebu Pacific.

Getting around: To get to other areas of Manila you will getting crazy at the first moment. The traffic in Manila is chaotic and it seems, that no rules exist for all participants. During the entire day traffic jam is usual. But after a few days you will be familiar with the situation and you will easily travel around.

  • Car: Bad idea! If you drive as like as in an european country your car is going to be demolished within the next half hour! But you should pay a lot of attention to the other participants and they will pay attention to you! And so we have never seen an accident during the entire holiday despite the chaos!

  • Taxi: At first you can take a taxi. Normally there are taxi with taxameter, but the drivers do not like to use it. Ask for it or keep in mind that a trip from the edge of manila to the centre costs 300 - 400 PHP. (At the airport you will find a taxi station with metered taxi!) You should have a road map of Manila also thereby at each time. The taxi driver couldn't know your street, where you want to travel to!
  • Jeepney: The common transport vehical in Manila are Jeepneys. To be honest, we haven't used the Jeepneys, because it takes some times to recognise, how does Jeepney transportation works. It's not easy to find out the routes of the different Jeepneys, because there are only the destinations written on the car! If you spend more time in Manila or if you interested in, you will know how does it works. We have been only three days in Manila... .

  • Metro: A modern transportation system in Manila is the Metro. It is a really cheap way to travel around in Manila (up to 15 PHP per trip). There are three Metro companies - Metrorail (LRT 1), Megatren (MRT 2) and Metrostar (MRT 3).

Sight Seeing: There are some sights in Manila, but we have been only three days in Manila.

  • Chinese Cemetery of Manila: This cemetery is the biggest one and the second oldest of all cemeteries of Manila. It is like a small town inside the big town with an own history.

  • Mall of Asia: This shopping mall was the world wide biggest a few years ago. If you need equipment for your journey or something for anything, you will find it here. You will find as well a lot of entertainment possibilities (IMAX cinema!), restaurants with international delicious cuisine, different beauty and wellness salons. It is not really a sight, but we spent our last entire day in Manila inside this shopping mall - it is quite easy to waste time in a pleasant way... ;)

    Accomodation:

  • We were accommodated in Manila in the The Townhouse Hotel Manila. There are totally different opinions regarding this hotel. It is a small and cheap accommodation (650 PHP), which is located a little bit hidden in a very small side street of the Roxas Boulevard. Our opinion is: It is cheap and very close to the Manila Airport. The personal is friendly and willing to serve. But if you have a special requirement at comfort, do not book this hotel. The rooms are small, noisy and equipped with old furniture. The electrical equipment is not really on the state of the art. Earplugs for the night are recommended! Free WIFI is available... But we had much fun with the staff. Ask for Jocelyn "Joyce" Samaniego - she is the soul of this hotel and will organise everything for you...!
